camiseta gltaThe origins of madpoint go back to 1997, when a group of friends met to play sports in Casa de Campo. Sometimes, they played tennis and sometimes they played football. Some of these players, the original founders of the club, participated in the Amsterdam ‘98 Gaygames. When they returned to Madrid, they firmly intended to create a lesbian/gay tennis club in Madrid.

As time went by, the popularity of the group increased and they started to meet regularly on Saturdays in Casa de Campo, just as they do today. In 2000, due to the increasing popularity of the tennis group, the first gay tennis tournament in Spain was organised. Soon after, the group organized a series of national tournaments called Torneo Día del Orgullo (Gay Pride Tournament). These tournaments were organised within Halegatos sports club, to which we belonged till 2006.

From 2006 since now the tournament has grown steadily. In 2005 we were around 50 participants. The next year we reached 80, in the next edition we crossed the one hundred mark, and then 120 in 2008, 140 in 2009 and more than 150 this year!! Along the way the Madrid tournament received the GLTA masters series consideration in 2007 and some GLTA awards like best tournament director and best volunteer in 2006 and best small tournament in 2007.
